Community First Free Fishing Day @ Jefferson Park, Menasha

Join us lakeside at Jefferson Park in Menasha to kick off Wisconsin’s free fishing weekend.  We will supply the bait and have additional rods and reels that can be borrowed.  There will be fun activities for the kids, free t-shirts, door prizes, and a small scale fishing tournament for all young shor fishers.  Prizes will be awarded to overall length of fish caught.  FREE FOOD FOR ALL!

Please arrive between 8-9 AM to check in to guarantee your youth T-shirt.

This event is a collaboration with Heckrodt Wetland Reserve and Menasha Parks and Recreation department.

Turtle Tots Preschool Storytime – Leap Frog @ Heckrodt Nature Center

Act out the life cycle of frogs.  Meet the different frogs that live in the wetland and go for a froggy hike.

Bees are really busy.  Come learn about bees by preactiving bringing pollen to the hive and trying on a hive master costume.  This “bee” fun!

BEE Your Own Pollinator @ Heckrodt Nature Center

This day will be dedicated to Heckrodt’s pollinators.  Visitors will have the opportunity to go on a guided pollinator hike and tour Heckrodt’s Honeybee Yard (as well as dressing up like a beekeeper or a bee).  Participants will also have the opportunity to learn about other pollinators found on the Reserve and try fresh honey from the hive. A perfect family outing!

Heckrodt Prairie Hootenanny @ Heckrodt Nature Center

Come out to the Reserve for a prairie celebration of artisan food, live music, and nature.  We’ll highlight local producers and farmers by serving locally made food with an end-of-summer flair.  We will be offering grilled sweet corn, apples with honey, popcorn, and root beer floats.  The music will be folk-themed overlooking our mature prairie.  Event goers will experience the prairie in many ways from riding through it on a horse pulled wagon to learning about native prairie birds of prey and snakes to observing the local plants and pollinators with magnifying lenses and binoculars on the event observation platform.

Entry fee is $5/person if purchased in advance; $8/person at the gate.  This is a great family event!

Monarch Madness @ Heckrodt Nature Center

Join out naturalist as we learn all about Monarchs.  Participants will have the opportunity to dress up like monarch, assist in a Citizen Science Monarch Tagging Program, and sweep/ID for insects on our prairie.
